A festival committed to sustainability

LA MISA FESTIVAL AIE, SUSTAINABLE FESTIVALS

In just a few years, music festivals have grown exponentially, becoming a major economic driver. They bring together a massive audience, multidisciplinary artistic proposals, and a wide range of agents and suppliers from various sectors, all contributing to the realization of these events.

Festivals can become social laboratories for implementing innovative and sustainable solutions, as they recreate small cities and societies where hundreds or thousands of people must live together in a short period of time, within an environment of culture, leisure, and entertainment.

Like any socio-economic activity, festivals generate an environmental impact through their operations. Given the nature of such events, the negative effects on the environment due to the activity itself, coupled with the large number of attendees, are often significant.

LA MISA FESTIVAL AIE, as the production and organizing company of La Misa Negra, understands the importance of promoting sustainability in festivals and contributing to the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals). Hence, its commitment to implementing sustainability measures for the event.

LA MISA FESTIVAL AIE AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TO SUSTAINABILITY AND THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Canary Islands 2030 Agenda are closely linked and integrated into our festivals. This is because the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs represent a global action plan to address various challenges, which we will align with the SDGs:

  1. SDG 4 – Quality Education:

At our festivals, we have a Social & GreenCorner to support sustainability education and awareness.

  1. SDG 5 – Gender Equality:

Ensuring and promoting a safe and inclusive environment (violet point), supporting gender equality.

  1. SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy:

Reducing the use of non-renewable energy is a priority for us by working with suppliers who adopt sustainable practices. We promote renewable energy and reducing the carbon footprint.

  1. SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth:

By creating local employment and business opportunities for local suppliers and vendors, the festival boosts the local economy and promotes local products.

  1. SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure:

We foster the tourism, leisure, and culture industries through innovation.

  1. SDG 10 – Reduced Inequality:

Offering affordable prices and inclusion programs for disadvantaged communities, working towards reducing inequalities. We also have staff trained in equality.

  1. SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities:

By implementing waste management and sustainable transport practices, the festival contributes to the sustainability of local communities. Promoting the “Tourism Canary Islands” brand and creating sustainable tourism revitalization.

  1. SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production:

The festival promotes responsible consumption, such as sustainable food and materials. We encourage sustainable development to achieve sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products.

  1. SDG 13 – Climate Action:

By calculating, minimizing, and offsetting the carbon footprint, the festival takes active measures against climate change.

  1. SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals:

By collaborating with the Government of the Canary Islands, local councils, local companies, organizations, third-sector entities, and environmental NGOs, we strengthen alliances for sustainable development.
